Discussion Board To complete the assignment please follow the steps:
Step 1: Reading and Preparation

Read chapter 1 of Clemons and McBeth (2020) titled Policy, Power, People, Pluralism, You
Read the other assigned readings.
Carefully read all about the case “The ‘Gig Economy’ Case: Uber (and Lyft) from Boise to Burlington: Does Regulating Uber Protect Entrenched Businesses or Citizens? Policy Analysis in a Transformative Economy. You can find it on pages 39-46 of the textbook.

Step 2: Writing and Submitting the Original Post
This part is the original post you are required to submit on Canvas. This part of the assignment should be between 500-700 words.  Answer the following questions:

Does the government have an interest in regulating ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft? If yes, what are they (the interests)? If no, why not?
What about protecting workers in the gig economy generally- is that a responsibility of the government? If yes, why? If not, what sort of problems might occur and why did the government start regulating things such as working hours and working conditions in the first place?
Based on the case information provided, what role did it seem democracy played in the decision in Idaho to pass a state-wide bill? Was democracy at play in Boise? What questions or information would you want in answering these questions?
Should cities such as Burlington be able to regulate a company like Lyft more than the state would? How so?

You do not need to conduct outside research to answer these questions unless you want to. However, your answers must demonstrate that you have read the textbook. Your arguments should be supported by the information about policy, governments, democracy, people, power, and so on provided in the textbook. Citing the textbook in the answer is a requirement. Cite the other assigned readings as and if you see fit.
